Janet Mendenhall

On January 17, 2023, Janet Lou Mendenhall passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89. Janet was born in Berwick, Iowa on July 2, 1933, to Ilo and Marjorie Mendenhall.

Janet was a happy and kind soul. She loved music and her stuffed cats. Janet gave us the gift of perspective. She reminded us that most of our problems are not really problems and to be grateful for what we have. Janet reminded us about kindness and patience, because it took a lot of patience and dedication to care for her special needs day after day. Her mother and father took care of her with love and patience and when that was no longer possible, she was cared for by many wonderful caretakers at Mosaic. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caretakers and to her guardian, Laura. Our gratitude is beyond words. Thank you.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Ilo and Marjorie Mendenhall, her brother, Norman Mendenhall, and her sisters, Mary Jane Kooker and Wanda Densmore. She is survived by her nieces, Kathy Klinkose, Norma (Steve) Wills, Barb (Allen) Laughon, Carol Albers and Nancy Mastrian, her nephews, Patrick Kooker and Steven Densmore, as well as, 11 great nieces and nephews and 4 great great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mosaic Central Iowa, 11141 Aurora Ave, Bldg 3, Urbandale, IA 50322, or to your favorite charity.

A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, and will be followed by a luncheon. Burial will take place a Berwick Cemetery after the reception.
