Sheila Marie VonStein, age 60, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after her courageous battles with cancer.

Sheila was born September 18, 1962, in Des Moines, Iowa to Gary and Sandra Sullivan. She was a resident of the Des Moines area for most of her life with the exception of a short time living in Missouri. She loved working with children and volunteered her time at Oak Park Elementary where she later became a Special Education Associate. Sheila had a bright, fun personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She always put others before herself and will be remembered lovingly as a very selfless person. Her family was her greatest joy and she especially loved being “Nana” to her grandsons. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Scott VonStein; daughter, Mindy (Aaron) Snyder; grandsons, Jayden and Dominic Snyder; stepmother, Kathy Sullivan; siblings, Jim Clark, Brenda Ramirez, Pat Sullivan, Shannon Sullivan, and John Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Gary Sullivan and Sandra Long, and her brother, Gary Sullivan, Jr.

Services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. Urn burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery at a later date.
