Phyllis L. Shriver Brown

Phyllis Lorraine Shriver Brown, 78, passed away on January 14 2023, at Taylor House Hospice. She was born June 15, 1944, in Council Bluffs, Iowa the daughter of Russell and Laura Shriver.

Phyllis grew up moving often with her military father being stationed in different places throughout her childhood. She worked in Early Childhood Special Education for the Des Moines Public School District and retired in 2006. Phyllis was a member of Union Park Baptist Church and was involved with Highland Park Little League. Most of all, Phyllis loved her family and spending time with them.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Alan (Melissa) Brown, Jr. and Bill Brown; three grandchildren, Sophia Brown, Madelynn Brown and Kaden McNaney; sisters, Cathy Bauer and Becky (Craig) Chandler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alan Keith Brown, Sr.; brother, Rusty Shriver; sister, Leah Shriver; and brother-in-law, Gary Bauer.

Services will be at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., in Des Moines. Family will greet friends from 3-5 p.m., on Sunday, January 22, 2023 with a 1 p.m. service on Monday, January 23, 2023. Burial will take place at Carlisle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Taylor House or the Animal Rescue League.
