Jesse J. Lathrum

Jesse John Lathrum, 89, of Des Moines passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center. He was born March 21, 1933 in St. Charles, Iowa, to William and Alice Lathrum, the youngest of 4 children. Jesse lived the majority of his life in Des Moines with his wife Judith and their 3 children. Out of high school, he enlisted into the US Navy serving from 1951 until 1960. Jesse was sworn in as a US Deputy Marshal in 1963 serving until 1986. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed gardening. He was also a member of the Masonic Shriners.
Left to cherish his memory are Judith, his wife of 62 years; his children, Karla (Mike) Woodward, Laurie Lathrum, John (Suellen) Lathrum; his 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4-5 p.m. with a 5 p.m. service to follow at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the Iowa DNR Fish & Wildlife Trust Fund in Jesse’s name.

Im sorry to hear of Jesses passing. I so enjoyed spending time with him wether it was hunting pheasants or fishing with him when he came to Mankato. The time spent just sitting around and talking with him was what I remember the most. I know you all will miss him terribly. Best wishes to you all.
