Helen Delores "Doe" Sanford

Helen Delores “Doe” Sanford, 82, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.

Doe was born April 25, 1940, to Frank and Wanda Work. She graduated from I-35. Doe was married for 58 years to Roy Sanford until he passed in 2020.

Doe grew up on a farm and always enjoyed helping her dad milk the cows and taking care of all the farm animals. She became a beautician in 1981 and enjoyed cutting hair and talking with all her customers.

In her spare time she loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking vacations to Florida to see them. She also enjoyed the thrill of playing slot machines. Cooking for the family was very important to her, especially Sunday morning pancakes. She was famous for them.

Doe is survived by her children, Linn Sanford and Lorie Sanford (Kenny Brickman); grandchildren, Mitchell Dewey (Jesseca) and Miranda Dewey; great-grandchildren, Riley, Emery and Ivory Dewey; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Wanda Work; husband, Emery L. “Roy” Sanford; and her sister, Wava Belieu.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Private family burial will take place at Stuart Cemetery in Runnells.
