George Ronald Williams

George R. Williams, 79, passed away January 10, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.

George was born in Des Moines and was adopted by Bill and Marian Williams at the age of 7. He joined the US Navy in 1960 and served until 1964. Following his honorable discharge, George later worked for Dico Manufacturing for 35 years. He married Marcia Talty-Way in 1975 and was a loving and caring husband to her for 48 years.

A proud and long-time resident of Valley Junction, George was reluctant to leave its bounds. He was happy to putz in his garden, create a new dish in the kitchen, and tinker in his tool shop. Though he could be coaxed to head to a local fishing hole. But the best thing about George was the way he made you feel loved and appreciated. He wasn’t afraid to give you his opinion about something or guide you to his way of thinking, but his warm and welcoming smile was contagious and precious to his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brought the family through many tough times over the years.

This dear man will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Marcia; children, Melissa Williams, Scott (Camille) Williams, Jeff (Joan) Way, Michael Way, Denise Way, and Jon (Miyuki) Way; his grandchildren, Josh, Heather, Stephanie, Ryan, Stephen, Jada and Devan; and many great-grandchildren.

George was predeceased by his parents; and his grandson, David.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
