Roy “Bud” Edward Hughes Sr., 77, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life and graveside service will be held later this spring at Elm Grove Cemetery.
He was born March 30, 1945 to Christine Blumer. Bud’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved going to the sprint car races in Knoxville and watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bud also enjoyed Fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie; son, Danny; brother, Leon Barry; and his mother, Christine Blummer.
Bud is survived by his son, Roy; daughter-in-law, Amy; grandchildren, Cody and Rose Hughes; sister, Joan Cooper; brother-in-law, Robert Foronato; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Bud would want us to unconditionally love one another, and is once again full of love and happiness being with his wife Vicky.

I will miss Bud yelling, "hello Andy" from his deck whenever I visit my parents. Bud, was always willing to help or lend a hand with anything you might need. He was a good guy and I will miss him.

Not enough words can express the sadness, Upon hearing about Mr.Hughes passing.
I can remember meeting him and his wife in 1985. My son DeMarcus and Daniel, were friends. And last seeing him,when his wife passed.
They were truly people ! God Bless.

Roy will definitely be missed. I remember when I was just a boy he would take me and my brothers fishing all the time he came around the house when he was dating Vicky. And as time goes on, we all get wrapped up in our own environments and dont stay as close as we once did seems like the only time we ever meet anymore is at a funeral. Just want to say Roy and the rest of you that I am sorry you lost your dad. Mike

Roy (Bud) and Vicky have been our neighbors for 44 years They were the 1st ones who moved into Pioneer Knolls in 1978 They have been more than neighbors but friends, since Vicky passed we have kept touch with Bud daily, he was good to mow our yard some or bring up garbage ,if he saw a sale at store would let us know and many small thoughtful things He will truly be missed

Our deep condolences to the Hughes family. Uncle Bud was one of a kind! He will always be remembered any time we look at the grocery ads in the paper or when we plant our vegetables. While we are sad, we know that Vicky, Bud and Jodi are all hugging in heaven today.
