Richard L. Benson

Rich L. Benson, 66, passed away after a five year battle with lung cancer on January 6, 2023 in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.

Rich was born August 30, 1956 to Richard and Carol Benson in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended East High School and resided in Des Moines before moving to Phoenix, AZ in the 1980’s. He then moved to El Cajon, CA in the 1990’s and back to Des Moines in 2009.

For most of his work career Rich was employed as a Hydraulics Specialist. In his spare time he enjoyed attending the NASCAR races in Daytona and watching the sprint cars in Knoxville and fishing in Baja, Mexico.

He is survived by his daughter Jessalyn (Tim) Todd; grandsons, Gavin and Will Todd; sister, Kate McDowell; and nephews, Eric, Joel, Kelly, and Todd; and many dear friends who will miss Rich greatly.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie and Bobby Benson.
