Service Details

David Guild Squires, 65, of Urbandale, passed away November 13, 2009 at his home.

He was born on May 25, 1944 and raised in Wheaton, Illinois the son of late Margaret and Emerson Squires. He was the middle of three brothers. David worked at Sidwell Company (St. Charles, IL) for 39 years in a variety of capacities, including vice president. In his role at Sidwell he worked very closely with the Iowa County Assessors and built lifelong friendships with many throughout the years.

Sports were a huge part of David's life. Growing up in the Chicago area he was a fan of both the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. In college sports, he was an avid Notre Dame fan, attending many games throughout the years. Once he moved to Iowa, he became a fan both of the Cyclones and the Hawkeyes. He was also a season ticket holder of the Iowa Cubs and attended many games.

David's personal life was also rich in the ways that he participated and gave back to the community. He was former president of the Rotary Club of Adel, IA, and attended West View Reformed Church with his wife, Mary Ann. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Hillcrest Country Club in Adel. Along with all of this, he was a prolific collector of almost anything — antique cameras, golf balls, die cast cars and tractors, as well as sports hats. More than anything David loved to spend time with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann, son and daughter in law, Stephen and Melissa Squires of Boston, MA; daughter Kelley Squires of Los Angeles, CA; daughter and son in law, Miranda and John Blair of Boone, IA; and brothers Steve of San Mateo, CA, and John of Yellowknife, Canada, as well as many grandchildren which he loved.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Urbandale Baptist Church, 6501 Aurora Avenue, Urbandale, Iowa. Burial will take place at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.

A visitation with the family present will be held from 4-8 pm Tuesday November 17, 2009, at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.
