Service Details

Bridget Elizabeth Barta, 10, passed away on January 3rd, 2023 at home, with her family by her side. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Thursday, January 12th at 2:00, with visitation the evening prior from 5 to 8 p.m.

Bridget was born on July 27th, 2012 to Michael and Stacey Barta in Des Moines, IA. From the beginning, Bridget was spunky, full of laughter, energetic, and would always keep her parents on their toes. She had a giggle that could melt your heart. To know Bridget, was to love Bridget. Over the course of her life, she was dealt a difficult hand with the diagnosis of Sanfilippo Syndrome Type A (just four short years ago). No matter what the struggles were that she was battling, she remained strong, vibrant, and eternally loved by her family and friends.

Bridget’s fondest times were spent at home with her family, visiting relatives near and far, at school with her wonderful team, and also at the ball field watching her dad coach baseball. She is most recognized for her gorgeous red pigtails, glasses, and infectious smile. Bridget was an affectionate little lady who loved to give kisses and hold hands until the very end. Throughout her life, Bridget had an intense love of music. In her early years, before her syndrome stole her voice, she would often be heard singing Disney Princess songs…on repeat.

One of the best weeks of her life was spent during her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World with her family. The timing could not have been more perfect, as her syndrome progressed rapidly thereafter. Bridget was amazed to finally be able to meet Donald, Mickey and Minnie, and some princesses in real life. We will forever cherish that time spent celebrating her.
Bridget also fiercely loved her family members. She spent the majority of her time playing, watching, and laughing along with her siblings. She enjoyed curling up with her dad to watch sports and sing songs together. She also felt at peace cuddling with her mom and allowing her to do all sorts of styles to try to contain her vast amounts of hair.

Although Sanfilippo stole her ability to eat, walk, and talk, Bridget had a way of stealing your heart. We will miss her immensely until we are able to see her again. We envision her singing with God, giggling with the angels, and dancing among the clouds.

Bridget was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Maynard ‘Chip’ and Shirley Johnston, Kenet and Inez Ginapp, and cousin McKaila Steffes.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother and father, Stacey and Michael; brother and sister, Luke and Greta, grandparents: Sam and Marilyn Barta, Ron and Nancy Ginapp, uncle and aunt Jake and Megan Vonnahme, uncle and aunt Nick and Cassie Ginapp, uncle Brad Ginapp, cousins: Priya and Jack, Kenley, Peyton, Ellie, and Laney; great-grandparents Roman and Arlene Steffes, and many extended family and friends.
