Sharon Overton, 86, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 at Glen Oaks Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa.

Sharon was born July 11, 1936 to Charles and Nellie Marie Ghaston in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. She married Richard Fogarty, Sr. and from this union had two children. After Richard’s death, she met and married Al Overton combining their two families.

Sharon worked at the American Heart Association before obtaining her position at the Polk County Courthouse where she worked in Court Administration for many years before her retirement in 2001.
She enjoyed her dogs, horses and rabbits. Most recently her dog, Angel, brought her much joy and comfort. She was a wonderful cribbage player and loved tournaments at the Iowa State Fair. She was an avid fan of old western movies. She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to the music of Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley.

She is survived by her son, Rob (Karie) Fogarty; step-children, Timothy Overton, Sharon (Ron) Harmon, Shirley (Dan) Evans, Suellen Overton, Sandra (Don) Ouimet, and Sally Overton; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Fogarty, Sr. and Alvin E. Overton; son, Ric Fogarty; daughter, Terri Clark; and brother, Russell Ghaston,
