Service Details

Betty Becker, 94, passed away January 1, 2023. She was born November 7, 1928 in Woodburn, Iowa to Samuel and Mary (Chambers) Page. Betty married Grant Becker on June 5, 1948 Woodburn, Iowa. Betty and Grant were blessed with 47 years of marriage prior to Grant’s passing.

Betty worked the first 10 years of her marriage at Bankers Life; she and Grant saved all of her paychecks with the thought that when they started their family she would be a stay-at-home mom. Once their sons were born, Betty sold Avon to help support their family. She was a very successful Avon lady and was honored to be in Avon’s President Club for over 25 years. Betty’s granddaughters, Lindsay and Bree loved to play Avon, help sort orders and do their makeup with Avon samples. Betty loved a good garage sale and had many stories of what she bought and sold over the years.

Betty spent winter months at Wagons West in Arizona where she took up shuffleboard, continued bowling and took many bus trips with other residents. When home in Iowa bowling, casino bus trips and spending time with family brought her joy and happiness. She was an active member of Epworth United Methodist and was a board volunteer with American Legion Post 374 Highland Park.

Betty is survived by her sons, Steven (Amy) and Gary (Diane); grandchildren, Lindsay (Joshua), Bree (Scott), Shawn (Grace) and Lynn KayMarie; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brock, Savanna, Emery and Grant; sisters-in-law, Gail Page (Everett) and Mary Page (Gerald); Betty’s nieces and nephews loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; her parents, Sam and Mary; siblings, Vena, Bernice, Viola, Everett, Gerald, and Ruth.

Services will be at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., in Des Moines on Monday, January 9, 2023. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. with a 2 p.m. service to follow. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
