Glada Irolene Carroll passed away on December 16, 2022, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. She was 99. She was a long-time resident of South Des Moines most recently residing at 3523 Wolcott.

Glada was born May 24, 1923, in Carson, Iowa to Jacob and Viola (Frain) Houser.
She was president of the Macedonia High School class of 1940. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1944 with, BS in Dietetics, and earned her MS in Institution Management in 1977 from ISU. The first of her family to attend college, she remained involved with the University Dietetics Programs and student education.

She worked 27 years at Mercy Hospital, serving 15 years as Director, of Dietetic Services until retiring in 1993. She was active in the Iowa Dietetic and American Dietetic Associations.

She was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church and gave time to helping others.

Glada enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Philip H Carroll, Rita C Dawson, and Timothy J Carroll; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Glada was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Carroll; children, Linda L. Day, Beverly A. Campbell, and Daniel L. Carroll.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 19 at 10:00 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Glada will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
