Service Details

Robert Wayne Coffey, 73, died Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 at his home in Norwalk following a battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm also at the funeral home.

Robert (Rob) was born March 7th, 1949 to Robert (Bob) and Jeannette (Coons) Coffey in St Joseph, Missouri. After moving to Iowa, Rob graduated from Interstate 35 Schools in 1967. He went on to Iowa State for a brief period of time before moving to Alaska and joining the Navy. In July 1988, Rob married Susan Wilson and together they raised their blended family of four children. Sue passed away exactly one month prior to Rob so they are together again in heaven.

Rob thrived on the outdoors. Early on in his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was thought to be one of the best wing shooters around during his younger years. His love for the outdoors was shared with his son Troy as he got a little older and when his grandson’s Cody and Cole came along, he shared his passion with them as well. Rob would talk about his love of the outdoors with anyone and everyone. In the more recent years, you could find him down at the river chasing smallmouth bass. He spent 10-15 years running a small bait and tackle shop out of his Norwalk home. This gave him the chance to share many stories with friends and neighbors or even strangers. Those stories and memories will live on with everyone who met him.

Rob is survived by his children Troy (Jennifer) Coffey of New Virginia, Tawnya (Richard) Swiger of Bondurant, and stepdaughter Tonja (David) Pardun of Polk City. Grandchildren Cody Edgington of Indianola and Cole Edgington of Ames, Emily (Austin) Dermody of Indianola and Paige (Jeremy) Shannon of New Virginia, Cassandra Johnson (Nate Owens) of Ankeny, Jennifer (Brandon) Clemons of Carlisle, Joseph Johnson of Des Moines, and Andrew Johnson of Indianola, Scott Pardun of Ankeny, Sydney and Gavin Pardun of Polk City. Sister-in-laws Linda (Jim) Heider and Jo Vanden Hoogen both of Green Bay, WI, Chris Zimonick of Lakeville, MN, and brother-in-law Jim (Joyce) Wilson of Waubeka, WI. In addition, he has seven great-grandchildren: CJ and Cayden Dermody, Wesley and Amelia Owens, Matthew Eoriatti, Natalie and Jacqueline Clemons.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Susan (Sue), his stepson Chad Johnson, parents Bob and Jeanette Coffey, in-laws Ken Wilson and Jean (Russ) Hebel, sister-in-law Kathy Wilson, brothers-in-law Paul Zimonick and Mike Vanden Hoogen.

The family would like to thank Home Instead for providing care to Rob as well as Tracie at UnityPoint Hospice.
