Service Details

Barbara Jean “Judy” Aller was born in Des Moines, Iowa on March 3, 1938, the youngest of John and Goldie Aller’s six children. She died on December 9, 2022.

“Aunt Judy” grew up and lived most of her life in her childhood home on the south side of Des Moines. In the last years of her life, she resided in assisted living with her brother, James Aller, in Indianola, Iowa.

Judy worked many years at Equitable of Iowa and then as an office assistant at Calhoun Burns in West Des Moines, Iowa. Also, she was a dedicated volunteer at Blank Children’s Hospital and the Greater Des Moines Botanical Center. Judy loved to travel, garden, bowl, and go out to dinner and was always impeccably dressed. She enjoyed Des Moines Symphony concerts, Oreo cookies with milk, all forms of gossip, a good Old Fashion on Christmas Eve, and her mornings as a regular mall walker with many good friends. Aunt Judy took special pride in watching all her nieces and nephews grow up, have their families, and become caring adults. She became “Aunt Judy” to four generations of the family.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Aller, and three sisters: Mary Elliott, Helen Ramsey, and Betty Schuler-Wagner, a niece, Virginia (Ginger) Bair, and a nephew, Jack Schuler, Jr.

Aunt Judy will be dearly missed by her brother, James Aller, and her many nieces and nephews. She will be especially missed by Julie (Jack, Jr.) Schuler and her family, sons Jacob and Jonathan (Whitney), who were very special to Judy and who became her prime caregivers in her last years.

The family would like to thank Suncrest Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during Judy’s final days of life. No services are planned and in accordance with Judy’s end-of-life wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa.
