Service Details

John David Bruch passed away peacefully on his 72nd birthday surrounded by his family while under hospice care. John battled with illness for a long time and the family takes comfort knowing he is finally free and at peace.

John was born December 8, 1950, in Perry, Iowa to Daniel and Gertrude (Gearhart) Bruch. John was a very strong and determined man. He was fiercely independent and was very proud to be a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 45.

John loved the outdoors and had a large collection of fishing gear. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed working on cars, and he especially loved hot rods. He was extremely organized and had the knack of knowing the length of something just by looking at it. He was so accurate, he earned himself the nick name “the human tape measure”. John also enjoyed playing pool in his free time. He was a devoted family man and supporting his children by attending every one of their sporting events.

He is survived by his son, Edward (Carmen) Bruch; daughter, Tina (Cory) Berning; grandchildren, Briley and Gavin Berning, and Ophelia, Everett, and Langston Bruch; siblings, Jean Hayes, Helen Rabe, and Charles Bruch; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Shinn; and his parents, Gertrude Louise Gearhart and Daniel William Bruch.

According to John’s wishes, cremation will occur. The family will plan a celebration of life for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of John.
