Service Details

Shannon “Skip” William Shelley, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at his home in Cumming, Iowa.

Skip was born October 17, 1950, in West Des Moines, Iowa to Elwood and Mary (Harmon) Shelley.

Skip graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. He then attended Des Moines Area Community College where he obtained an associate’s degree. Skip went on to own and operate S&S Jaguar Specialties with his brother Scott for over 40 years, dedicated to restoring European automobiles. Cars were his lifelong passion, and his business exemplified the type of man he was: cool, calm and collected, with a burning desire to live fast and love hard.

He was a dedicated member of his community, serving on both the Planning and Zoning Board as well as on the City Council for the city of Cumming, Iowa. Skip was also proud to be a founding member of the Jaguar Club of Iowa.

Skip was a joy to be around, especially when he was dancing (most often to country western music) or singing karaoke. Spending time with beloved family and friends was especially important to him. Skip was a caring, big-hearted, ornery and loving man, overshadowed only by the glorious legacy he created throughout his life.

He is survived by his children, Shamus (Brianna Hagar) Shelley and Satine Shelley; grandsons, Ayden and Brodey Shelley; sister, Kerry Jean Shelley; brother, Steven (Carma) Shelley; nephews, Cody (Jaynee) and Adam Shelley; niece, Sarah Shelley; and lifelong friend and co-parent, Dawn Foster.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jeffery Scott Shelley and Bradley Shelley.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Raccoon River Lodge in West Des Moines from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. His family invites the community to enjoy food and drinks and to share memories of Skip.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Skip’s family.
