Dixie Rhnay Hernandez
of West Des Moines, Iowa
Dixie Hernandez, age 52, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 21, 2022, surrounded by her husband Joe, granddaughter Lily, and her three little puppy girls. She was born on May 5, 1970, in St. Louis County.
Dixie was baptized Catholic and her faith was very important to her. Dixie was a proud co-founder of Los Primos Grill since 1999. Everyone who knew Dixie knew she loved Prince and her favorite song was “Purple Rain.” She was also a basketball fanatic and was the loudest to cheer while watching the Golden State Warriors. She especially enjoyed going to her children’s games and cheering them on. Above everything, she loved her family more than life itself and treasured family gatherings. Dixie had the most generous loving heart, always putting others needs before herself without a moment’s hesitation. Words cannot adequately express the intensity of loss felt by her family and friends who love her so deeply.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 30 years Joe Hernandez, children “Paci” Gary Hernandez and “Baby” Joey (fiancé Lacey) Hernandez III, gifts from God who she consider her children Marco Aranda and Barbara Rodriguez, Nana to her grandchildren Lily, Key and her mother Amanda Watson, Everly and her mother Lina Naylor, Marco, Christian, Jacob, Madison and Olivia and their mother Lacey, siblings Teresa (Randy) Jones, Lori Stroud, Susan (Todd) Johnson, Lisa (Joe) Gomez, Betty (Curtis) Hudson, Jerry “Pokey” (Linda) Fees, and Tori Fees, mothers-in-law “Mama” Karen Hernandez (Owen) & Karla Hernandez, siblings Jason Patrick, Gina (Josh) Turner, Jesse Hernandez (Bobbi), Mindy (Eric) Bryant, Jolee (Stephen) Donnelley, and Evelyn (Devin) Robertson, uncles Ralph Hernandez and Stephen Newkirk, aunt Jackie Hernandez-Wells, beloved dogs Suzie, Sophie, and Baby Zoey, and a host of extended loving family, dear friends, and loyal customers.
Dixie was preceded in death by her brother Billy King, step-mother Janey Hooper, father Joe Hernandez, Sr., grandparents Raul & Josephine Hernandez and “Nana” Dorothy Noble.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2022, with funeral service following at 7:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Joe,
You and your family mean so much to us! We are so sorry for the loss of Dixie, and know that she is safe in the arms of Jesus, and physically restored now. We know that this has been a rough year for you on many levels, and we want you to know that we care, and that we are there for you and Lily, should you need anything. Again, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your wife, and Lily's nana. God's blessings and peace on you both during this difficult time.

Where do we start this beautiful lady touched our band and her love of Richard playing Prince for her 💜 meant as much to us as it did Dixie! She was our biggest cheerleader, and we know that she is up in heaven with Prince singing away!!
