Service Details

Jacqueline “Jacque” Irene Smith, 73, passed away November 16, 2022 at Methodist Hospital.

Jacque was born February 10, 1949 to Harry “Jack” and Maxine (Huffman) Buell in Portland, Oregon. She grew up in Ringgold County and was raised by her grandparents, Bill and Evelyn Buell. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1967. After graduation, she moved to Des Moines and worked at Bankers Life. She met the love of her life, Richard Smith and they married on November 9, 1968. They had two children, Shelly and Mark Smith.

She enjoyed country music, especially George Strait. She attended many concerts over the years from Nashville to Vegas. She also enjoyed summer gardening, winter puzzles, visiting with the neighbors, and feeding the whole family. Her joy came from having everyone together. She absolutely loved the Iowa State Fair and never missed it in over 50 years. She enjoyed working as a bookkeeper at Papa Murphy’s until her retirement. Her happiest times were traveling coast to coast and border to border with her husband. Above all, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was very involved in their school and outside activities when they were young. She never missed a ballgame or a band concert. Her husband, kids, and grandkids were her whole world!

Jacque is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Smith; daughter, Shelly (Brian Fluharty) Smith; son, Mark (Brandey) Smith; grandchildren, Cole Riekeberg, Tanner Riekeberg, Mason Smith, and Karley Smith; and a host of other loving friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Buell; and nephew, Rick Buell.

A visitation will be held Monday, November 21, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines.
