Raymond T. Chapman

Raymond Thomas Chapman, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Raymond was born June 19, 1930 in rural Renwick, Iowa to Oliver and Madelyn (Fisher) Chapman. Soon after Raymond was born the family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he proudly served in the Korean War aboard the Navy Destroyer USS DeHaven DD-727 in which he saw combat action leading up to the invasion of Inchon. This gun fire support group was well known as the “6 sitting duck” and was cited with the “Navy Unit Commendation'' for their efforts. After being discharged from the United States Navy Raymond started a career with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as a proud Union PipeFitter. This was a career that spanned for over 40 years. He enjoyed football and fishing with his son, and friends, as well as traveling with his wife. Being versed in so many different topics he also enjoyed a good conversation.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Tim) Lawlor and Deb Chiri (Bob); sons, Curt Chapman and Michael (Terri) Chapman; step-daughter, Lynda Cannon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Chapman and Madelyn (Fisher) Chapman; his beloved wife, Jennie Belle McAfee-Chapman; step-son, Robert Padgett Jr.; and his siblings, Roezella, Ardis, Louana, Oliver Jr., Stanley “John”, Robert and Clair.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Raymond.
