Service Details
Gilbert Thomas, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center. He was born the son of Gilbert & Nellie (Kennedy) Thomas on March 27, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. Gilbert was a proud owner and operator of Des Moines Septic Tank and Sewer Service for many years. Above all else, Gib loved spending time with his family.
He is lovingly survived by his daughter Michelle Alatorre, granddaughter Erika Alatorre, sister Dillayna Audas, sister-in-law Virginia Tomas, and other loving relatives and many special friends.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Tina (Neil) Blanos & Margaret Sales, brother Larry Thomas, and the first love of his life Janis Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2022, at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Shelly, Dillayna and family
Thinking of all of you.
Gibs work on earth was done. He was there if needed even as a child. We grew up with him thinking of him as a brother, we shared so much together, although he lived across the street from us we were together daily, we were known as Son Ed and Gib. Our dad was Gibs favorite person, when dad got a new truck. Gib had to be the first kid to ride in it.
He was always a good guy.
