Dale Luther Campbell
of Des Moines, Iowa

Dale L. Campbell, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center. He was born the son of James & Verettia Campbell on November 21, 1943, in Diagonal, Iowa. Dale grew up on a farm and was one of 16 children. His love for the outdoors was passed on to his family.

Dale and Janice were married right out of high school and the two began raising a family together. Dale enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country faithfully in Vietnam. Upon his return, he owned several bars, Misfits, Stranded By the Tracks, and Sunrise Tap. Dale was a business man through and through, he could squeeze two pennies together and get a dime. His greatest joy in life were Peanut & Popcorn (Mason & Jessica) his great-grandkids.

Dale was famous for his hog roast parties that everyone was invited to. Strangers didn’t exist in Dale’s world – everyone was family! He was known to always have a story and a joke on hand. Dale was a stubborn old man with the ability to making people laugh through his crude humor. In all seriousness, he was an incredibly caring man with a huge heart. If anyone was ever down on their luck or needed a helping hand Dale was always the first to help. He will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate to cross his path.

He is lovingly survived by his granddaughters Justine (John) Stanger and Jaclyn (Brittany) Hardin, great-grandchildren Lillian, Mason, and Jessica, and his numerous siblings & extended family.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife of almost 50 year Janice, son Dale Lee Jr., and his granddaughter Jessica Campbell.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2022, with funeral service following at 1:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
