Service Details

Lynn Lewis was the firstborn to the union of Mr. Lynn Lewis, Jr. and Lois Thomas on July 24, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa. Affectionately known as “Lil’ Lynn”, she was the big sister, confidant, and friend to her many brothers and sisters. A diligent student, Lynn graduated from Des Moines Technical High School and continued to college at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. With her hard-earned degree, Lynn began her career with Raytheon in Las Vegas, Nevada. She excelled in her position and worked well with her coworkers. She was respected and admired for her diligence, camaraderie, and impeccable organizational skills. While employed with Raytheon, Lynn decided to pursue her master’s degree which she successfully completed at the University of Phoenix in Orlando, Florida. Her career at Raytheon/Vertex spanned over 25 years and ultimately ended up in Orlando, Florida where she built her life.

Lynn adored her daughter J’Vona whom she gave birth to in 1985 and loved her stepson Kasmir Rhodes as her own. J’Vona added to the family with three lovely children that brought joy and delight to her. They called her Nana, and she wore that title well. Lynn loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and she loved them with all her heart. Her downtime was spent dancing, eating out, and laughing. We will remember her smiling face.

She is survived by her husband Gerry Chivers, daughter J'Vona Lewis, stepson Kasmir Rhodes, father Lynn Lewis, Jr., siblings El Lonzo R. Lewis (Rene), Rodnee R. Lewis, Marilyn M. Lewis, Al Fonzo Lewis, Lynn "Huff" Lewis III, Ma Rikki R. Lewis, Roscoe L. Lewis (Camelle), Ina M. Dock (Littoree), and stepsiblings Michael H. Childs Jr, and Antonio L. Ashby Sr.

She is preceded in death by mother Lois Thomas, grandmother Elizabeth Thomas, siblings Robert M. Washington, Lynn "Pooh" Lewis IV, and Marie A. Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memories her precious grandchildren Jaiyana Lewis, Jayce Ashe, Jael Ashe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
