Olive Elaine Karns

Olive Elaine Karns, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at New Perspective Assisted Living in Eagan, Minnesota. She was born the daughter of Earl & Agnes (Carter) Halfhill on March 3, 1941 in Allerton, Iowa.

Olive married Boyd Powell and had two wonderful daughters from this union. She later married Ronald Karns. Olive was a claims specialist at BC & BS for her entire career and retired after 29 years of dedicated service.

Some of her hobbies and interests included listening to country music, camping, gardening, playing UNO, and she was a lover of all animals. Above all else, she loved and cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren who she adored.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughters Michele (Dan) Burke and Laura Truslow, and her grandchildren Earl Sengbusch, Stephen (Amanda) Sengbusch, Jeremiah (Katie) Burke, Dustin Burke, Emily (Alan) Post, Foss (Arqueas) Truslow, and Griffin (Alexis) Truslow.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in her memory.
