Harriet Ogren

Harriet Eileen Ogren, 85, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 3, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa to Lyle and Henrietta (Keul) Henrickson. After the 5th grade, her family moved to Kansas City where she graduated from high school. She later reconnected with her kindergarten sweetheart, Lee Ogren, and married him in 1958.

Harriet retired from European Motor Cars in the accounting department. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to Prairie Meadows with her close friends and loved to attend her painting class where she’d paint beautiful nature scenery.

Harriet was adventurous. She loved road trips with her sisters to Wyoming where they’d visit their family’s land and watch wild horses roam in the mountains out West.

The time spent with her grandkids was her favorite time of all. She’d share stories about her childhood and all of the adventures she had when she was young.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Melanie) Ogren; grandchildren, Daniele Marie Ogren, and Nicholas Leland Ogren; sisters, Hazel Matejic of Tulsa, OK, and Dorothy (Gerald) Byrd of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Nancy Kieler of Des Moines and a host of other loving friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Clifford Ogren, Jr.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on November 15, 2022, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. and also at the funeral home. Harriet will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
