Betty Jean Wilson, age 94, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

Betty was born September 14, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa to Albert and Dorothy (Cooney) Smith. She married Darrell Dean Wilson, Sr. in Des Moines in 1947. She was employed in the housekeeping department for Charter Hospital until her retirement in 1992.

Betty enjoyed playing Bingo and any card game. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping and “hootin” at flea markets and consignments shops. Betty loved flower gardening and yard work. She will be remembered fondly for inspecting her grandchildren’s bedrooms for dirt with the white glove treatment. She made many good memories of garage saleing with her daughter, Karen, over the years. She looked forward to going out to eat, which she did with family on a weekly basis. Betty was a member of the Northside Senior Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Tammy Clark-McDowell (Dawn), David McDowell (Khristal), and Beverly Wilson; five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Wilson, Sr.; her children, Karen McDowell and Darrell Wilson, Jr.; parents, Albert and Dorothy Smith; and several siblings.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery
