Douglas Kenneth Nixon passed away on October 25, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was born to Bryce and Janet Nixon on November 27, 1967.

Doug was a kitchen manager at Bavarian Haus on NE 14th Street for 16 years and then worked at Bridgestone-Firestone with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Local 310 Union.

Janet and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of Doug. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to get to know him even though he was my second cousin. But from what I've heard, he was a wonderful person who loved life and his family. Janet, I know that this is a terrible time for you. Feel free to call me any time if you need to talk. I have a new phone number that I'll mail to you. May God be with you all and give you peace and healing during this difficult time.

I trained Doug when he first got to Firestone as a Tire Layer. The 1st night as I trained him he was calling me Urkle....like on the show Family Matters. As a joke the people that we're on the shift told him to call me that. As the night went on he kept calling me that. Around 5AM or so....1 hour before we got off he said it 1 more time. I paused at the Tire Press we were on.....l looked at him damn square in the eyes and said "You call me Urkle 1 more time I will throw your ass in this Press! The name is Ergle!" We became life long friends after that. Doug literally saved my life when I wasn't able to care for myself. He got me in contact with his Father-In-Law and he helped me get my Veterans Benifits. He never let me feel less than....got me a gallon of milk and 10 bucks for gas in a time that wasn't so good for me. I am a Vet...I have trust issues with people....but Doug....He was....and will be in Heaven.....the Best Friend that I have ever had in my lifetime. I hope to be seeing you again.

Doug was a kind and gentle loving family man. He was a hard worker for the years I got to work with him in curing. Always bringing into work the 8-packs of soda and drinking it all in a 12 hour shift every night. He will be missed as he always worked lots of hours to support his family.
