Marjorie A. Smith

Marjorie Ann Smith, age 91, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

Marjorie was born January 27, 1931 in Sacred Heart, MN to Frank and Anna (Peterson) Higgins. She graduated from Renville High School in 1948 and attended Minneapolis Business College. She was crowned Hopkins Raspberry Queen in 1950. She married Wilmar Smith in Minneapolis on July 18, 1970. She retired from civil service with 35 years of service.

After living in Minneapolis most of her life, she moved to Zimmerman, MN in 2006 and in 2008 moved to Ankeny, IA to be near her family. She joined Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church where she was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed Bible study. She helped the poor even when she could not afford it.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Susan) Smith; five grandchildren, Brittany (Mitch) Myers, Austin, Cameron, Alyssa, and Caitlyn; and her niece, Nancy Higgins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmar; her parents; and sister, Alice Higgins.

A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2022 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church, 510 East First Street, Ankeny, IA 50021. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN on Monday November 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
