Julie McFarland

Julie Rae McFarland, age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Julie was born May 18, 1944 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Vernon and Ferne (Hatch) Treloar.

She enjoyed spending time with her family above all other things. She enjoyed walking/being outdoors, baking cookies for everyone, playing Scrabble, and reading. She was loving and selfless, doing for others. Her smile, laughter, and hugs will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her siblings: Ron Treloar, Larry Treloar (Mary), Diane Pokos (Alex), and Tom Treloar (Karen). Her children: Terri Thomas (Billy), Schel Straw, Traci Keck (Ron), Staci Straw, Will McFarland (Stephanie), and Guy McFarland (Amanda). Grandchildren: C.J. Bell, Schel Straw II, Caleb Bell, Jazmin Straw, Joshua Bell, Nicole Bell, Colin Thomas, Mason Thomas, Alexa Bell, Madeleine McFarland, Coleman Keck, Aidan McFarland, Jordan Keck, and Camille McFarland, and great grandson Karsen. Many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Julie was preceded in death by parents Vernon and Ferne Treloar, daughter-in-law Trish Straw, grandson Trevor Thomas, and nephew Brett Pokos.

Services will be held Monday, October 31, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the services, reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family to be forwarded to a charity in honor of Julie.
