Erwin John Goltz, age 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 24, 2022.

Erwin was born March 2, 1934, to Rosina (Perman) and John G. Goltz in Java, South Dakota, where he received his education. He also lived in North Dakota prior to moving to Iowa.

He worked for Rock Island Railroad and various security companies prior to his retirement in 1996. Erwin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of VFW Post 738 on Dean Avenue in Des Moines.

Erwin was strong spirited and loved watching western movies and shows, especially featuring John Wayne. He had an extensive collection of vinyl records and enjoyed fishing in his free time. Above all, Erwin loved his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his daughters, Eileen Goltz, Helen Lowe (Edward), Mary Manley, and Veronica Goltz; grandchildren, Mikki, Stephanie, Katie Amanda, Miranda, Joey, Christina, Chris, Kenny, and Tyler; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Aman (Harlan); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Erwin was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (Brandner) Goltz; sons, Anthony “Tony” Goltz and Erwin E. Goltz; parents, Rosina and John Goltz; and his siblings, Vangie, Leroy, Betty, Bob, Rose and Carol.

According to Erwin’s wishes, cremation will occur and there will be no services held at this time. His urn will be buried at a later date.
