Doris Dickerson

Doris Francis Dickerson, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona.
Doris was born June 4, 1930, in Rockwell City, Iowa to Fred and Josephine (Schwerderski) Stumpf. She lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa for most of her life, with the last seven years being in Altoona, Iowa. She was a member of Corpus Christie Parish in Fort Dodge and Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church in Altoona. During her working years, she worked for Hormel’s Packing Plant, then was a secretary for I.C.C.C. Registrar’s Office until her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening and quilt sewing and traveling whenever possible. She also enjoyed visiting with her family.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Tom) McAleavy, William Bodwell, Donna (Jim) Mernka, and Teresa Bodwell; twelve grandchildren, Kimberly West, Crystal Dinsmore, Julia Stone, Troy Siemer, Melissa Grantham, Rebecca Arafa, Byron Bodwell, Alexcia Gorman, Kyle Mernka, Matthew Mernka, Cameron Bodwell, Malinda Campbell Mehlhaff; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Josephine Stumpf; all of her siblings and their spouses, Bernard (Irene) Stumpf, Florence (John) Newberry, Dale (Joan) Stumpf, Rosella (Marvin) Loxterkamp, Faye (Norman) Mundie, and Aletha (Dean) Hayward; her first husband, Robert E. Bodwell; and her second husband, Norman M. Dickerson.
Services will be held at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave S, Altoona, IA 50009 on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., and will be followed immediately by a luncheon.
