Helen Jane Poggenpohl

Helen Poggenpohl, 99, passed into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus on October 12, 2022 at Azria Health Care Center in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, 801 19th Street in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Born November 8, 1922 in Des Moines, IA to Dorothy and Harry Dixson, Helen lived in Pella, IA from 1926 to 1936 and was baptized at age 11 in a Pella Baptist Church. She joined Galilee Baptist Church of Des Moines in 1936. Helen attended Webster School for Kindergarten thru 8th grade and graduated in the Class of 1936. She graduated from East High School in 1940 and worked for Meredith Publishing for 5 years. She was proud to earn a watch after 5 years. She also worked for National Handcraft for 9 months. Helen married Frank R. Poggenpohl on February 14, 1942 in Bethany, MO.

She is survived by her son, Steve (Linda) Poggenpohl of Thornton, CO; daughter, Nancy Meyer of Des Moines; grandsons, Preston Poggenpohl of Victorville, CA and Paul (Patricia) Poggenpohl of Enid, OK; great-granddaughters, Megan and Abigail Poggenpohl; 2 nephews; and 7 nieces.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank in 1976; son-in-law, Marvin Meyer in 2017; sisters, Nadine Dixson in 1925 and Betty Mackin in 2022; brother, Donald Dixson in 1997; and cousin, Gloria Arlene Lindquist.
