Grover "Bud" Ashby

Grover “Bud” Ashby, age 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.
Bud was born October 27, 1929 to Grover Everette Ashby, Sr. and Loudema Isabelle (Metcalf) Ashby in Hammond, Indiana. He attended a one-room schoolhouse outside of Centerville, Iowa. He lived in Arkansas and many places in Iowa, residing in Fontanelle for the past five years. He worked as a truck driver prior to retirement in 1987, lastly for Consolidated Freight Ways.
Bud enjoyed being outside and living in the country. He was a very likeable person and made friends easily. He was mechanically inclined and great at working on cars. Bud loved watching professional wrestling.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ann (Forrett) Ashby who he married in 1996; daughters, Sharon Neely, April (Craig) McGee, Mary Wilson, and Dulcie Smith; sons, Mike (Sharon) Ashby, Dave Smith, and Mike Smith; sister, Conda Hawkins; twenty grandchildren and many many great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Shirley Ann (Spencer) Ashby; his parents, Grover and Loudema Ashby; and his siblings, George, Margerie, and Eva.
There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be directed to the family.
