Vickie Crawford

Vickie Crawford, 79, of Waukee passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with burial following at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, October 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. also at Hamilton’s.

Vickie was born October 13, 1942, and was a Des Moines resident for most of her life. She was a customer service representative at Dahl's grocery store where she had worked for 26 years and retired in 2001. She enjoyed going to the casinos, listening to country music, and was a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Royals. Some of her favorite memories included bus trips with her husband (she especially loved her trip to Graceland), her annual trip to Minneapolis for a Viking’s game, and learning how to cook all those wonderful Italian dishes with her mother. She was especially proud of her grandson, Austin, with whom she shared a very special bond and lovingly referred to as “my little buddy.”

She is survived by her three sons, Dwight Crawford (Joel Rose) of Atlanta, GA, David (Janet, her children Ryan, Allison and Andrea Crowley) of West Des Moines, and Richard Crawford (Peggy Coleman) of Des Moines; grandson, Austin Crawford; and great-grandson, Charlie Crowley.

Vickie was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Ralph and Josephine Gabriel; and her siblings, Sam, Victoria and Guy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
