Service Details

Tammy Dianne (Burns) White, 53, passed away October 8th, 2022 at Mercy Hospital after a month long battle in which she fought strongly, bravely, and courageously.

Born November 8th, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jerry and Linda (Burton) Burns. As a kid, Tammy got to travel all over Iowa, whether it was moving to a new home or visiting her numerous relatives. In her teenage years, Tammy attended school at East High School and graduated in the top 3 percent of the Class of 1987. After high school, Tammy attended college for a brief time but in 1988 decided to take her skills to Principal Financial Group where she worked until 2001. In June of 1992, Tammy would meet the future love of her life, Douglas White, through her friends as Doug happened to be her friend’s brother. Tammy and Doug soon started dating August 29, 1995 and Doug swept her off her feet. In December of 1998, they welcomed their first child, Spencer, into the world and would soon welcome their second child, Tyler, into the world in July of 2002. And with Doug becoming an excellent step father to Tammy’s other child, Adam, from her previous marriage, Tammy knew she had found the man of her dreams and they were united in marriage on September 5th, 2003, completing Tammy’s dream of having a family. Tammy would soon go to work at Adventureland Park in 2006 and would continue to work there for 16 years, until she was admitted to the hospital in September. At Adventureland she met one of her good friends, Cindy Birkenholtz, as well as many others and had the privilege to work with all three of her sons.

Tammy lived an amazing life and had many hobbies. She enjoyed collecting dolphin items and memorabilia, doing activities with her family, such as completing puzzles with her husband and sons, enjoying their favorite films and TV shows, especially Blue Bloods and Law and Order SVU, as well as enjoying her favorite bands AC/DC and REO Speedwagon. Tammy loved attending her sons’ events like sports games, choir, handbell, and orchestra concerts, as well as theater productions. She especially loved to cuddle her cat, Garfielda, and dog, Rosey, as well as caring for her plants and pet fish. Tammy’s whole world revolved around her family who she loved with all her heart.

Tammy is survived by her husband of 19 years, Doug, her sons, Spencer and Tyler White and Adam Scarlett, her honorary daughter, Emily Sorenson, her cat Garfielda and dog Rosey, brother Jerry Burns, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Linda, her older brother who died in infancy, David Burns, her Granny Valda Miller, as well as her other grandparents and relatives. Tammy was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul and will be missed by everyone she touched with her kind heart.
