Carla R. Brown-Marble
October 08, 2022
Carla Rachelle Brown-Marble was born on July 30, 1966 in Waterloo, Iowa to Carlo Jerome Brown and LeAnne Brown-Harris. She graduated from Lincoln High School where she was a Lincoln Railsplitter cheerleader and was involved in numerous student organizations. After high school, she attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, with emphasis in Broadcasting. Following college graduation, Carla began working at Black Entertainment Television (BET), where she was a camera operator for several TV shows. After she left BET, Carla made a career out of helping people in many capacities through her non-profit work and her role at St. Paul AME.
“Cissi”, as she was affectionately known, was loved by many. Carla never met a stranger and would stop at nothing to help or mentor someone in need. She was a woman of faith and was a member of St. Paul AME Church for over 20+ years. She lived a life of serving others. She was a great resource for advice, suggestions and an overall, listening ear. Carla had a beautiful smile and a contagious laugh. She was the definition of a fashionista and had the most colorful outfits, shoes, and chandelier earrings. Carla's hobbies included roller skating, dancing, and sewing. She also enjoyed shopping for the latest trends, plants, home décor and gifts for family. Carla was a sports enthusiast and was an avid Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan. An interesting fact: Carla was the first captain of the Isiserettes Drill & Drum Corp when the organization was created in 1980.
Carla was a phenomenal, devoted, and loving mother to her three children Royonah – “Roy Roy”, Roichelle – “Shelly” and Carlo – “Royshaad”. She would go to the ends of the earth to make sure that her “babies” had all that they needed. They were her pride and joy and everyone knew it. She attended every game, event, and celebration no matter the distance. What brought her the most joy was spending time with her children, family and spoiling her nephew, Asher. Carla was the glue that held her family together. She was always the coordinator for every holiday and family gathering, taking pride in preparing all of the meals for special occasions. She loved to cook for her family.
Carla departed this life to be with the Lord on October 8, 2022, surrounded by family. Carla was preceded in death by the love of her life, Roy Lane Marble, Jr.; her father, Carlo Jerome Brown, stepfather, John Lee Harris, Jr. and brother, Marion Eugene Harris. Left to cherish all the precious memories are her children; Royonah, Roichelle and Carlo, siblings; Andre, Jontell, Johnte, BJ, Arpree and Arkeya, nephew; Asher, along with a host of loving family and friends.
Carla was a kind, giving, caring and selfless soul. She was the epitome of strength, resilience, drive, and dedication. She was a ray of light and touched many lives. Words cannot adequately express the intensity of loss felt by her family and friends who loved her deeply. We will always treasure the brief time we had with her. May she rest peacefully.
