James Earl Weikert

James Earl Weikert, age 72, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 with his family by his side. James was born the son of Morris & Doris Weikert on November 14, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa.

James was a “Jack of all trades” over the years he held many positions, he worked in management for McDonald’s, he was a driver for Pepsi, owned and operated The Dodge Lounge, retired from TruGreen Lawn Care after 30 years, and worked part-time at O’Halloran International. James was a sports enthusiast. If he wasn’t travelling to watch the Hawkeyes play in their Bowl Games, he was supporting his beloved Cubs in their season and the All-Star Games. James was a longtime bowler.

He is survived by his children, James C. Weikert (Andrea), Kate Weikert, and Anne Salyards (Jason); step-son, Jeff “Reggie” Recker (Kelli); his grandchildren, Anna Duzenberry, Alex Weikert, Connor, Meredith and Brody Recker; sister, Claudia Miranda; nephew, Mike (Kelsey) Miranda; niece, Megan Miranda (Mark Reseland); and other extended family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Patricia Weikert; and his parents.

Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of James.
