Ruby Harryman

Ruby Lorraine Harryman, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Ruby was born February 27, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa to Tennis C. and Lucille M. (Heuton) Childers. She was a devoted wife and mother and took pride in caring for her family and home. She was married for 57 years to Roger Lee Harryman and together they raised three sons, Larry, Kenny and Allen.

Ruby loved reading and doing word searches. She was stubborn! Her family always came first and she loved them above all else. She adopted everyone and was Mom or Grandma to so many. She loved her hot tea, Diet Coke, and spicy food – anything with jalapeños. She was an animal lover and especially liked geese, ducks, and penguins. She was the glue who held her family together.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Joan) Harryman, Kenny (Cathy) Harryman, and Allen (Darla) Harryman; grandchildren, Zach (Chelsea) Harryman, Trudy (Michael) Clemetson, Tabitha (Don) York, Hayley Lincoln, and Mary Harryman; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Logan Harryman and Landon and Savannah Jo Lincoln; and other loving relatives and many special friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roger Harryman; parents, Tennis and Lucille Childers; and her sisters, Margaret Shepard and Carla Childers.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2022. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2022. Burial will follow at Hopeville Cemetery in Hopeville, Iowa. There will be a dinner at Grand River Community Center after the burial.
