Jack Deskin, 88, died peacefully November 12, 2009, at the Taylor Hospice House.

Jack was born on July 22, 1921, to Sylvia and Clair Deskin near Melrose, IA, moved to Des Moines at age 2, graduated from East High School in 1940, married his high school sweetheart, Iris Yeater on June 16, 1941, and became parents of Jack Jr., Jill, Bill, Tim, Julia and Doug. Iris died unexpectedly January 26, 1976.

Jack was a faithful employee of MidAmerican Energy for 43 years, retiring in 1986. Jack enjoyed woodworking, traveling, reading, the dry humor of British comedy, card games, caring for the family home, and family times. He was active in Christ United Methodist Church where he was a charter member for 62 years. Jack did not speak unkindly of others. He was known for his tolerance and acceptance of differing views. His generous spirit and kind heart will be missed by all. Of great importance to him: his faith, family, and friends.

In 1983 he met and married Sheryl Clifton and welcomed her extended family into his life.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Iris, brother, sister-in-law, and sons, Jack Jr., July 22, 1996, and Tim, October 26, 2009.

He is survived by wife of 26 years, Sheryl, and his children: Jill (Jim) Ferguson of Clive; William/Skip (Pat) Deskin of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Julia (Lee) Williams and Doug Deskin of Des Moines and daughter-in-law, Beryl Deskin of Minneapolis plus 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Sheryl's extended family as well as numerous family and friends survive.

Funeral Services will be on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street at 2 p.m. The family will greet for two hours prior to the service. A time for sharing will occur at the funeral home directly following the service. At a later date his cremated remains will be buried in the family plot at Glendale Cemetery.
