Marilyn Isadora Broadnax was born to Francis and Madonna Jackson April 11, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was educated in the Des Moines Public School System and graduated from East High School. Shortly after graduation, Marilyn was employed by the State of Iowa and worked at the State House in Des Moines. She later became an employee of United Parcel Service (UPS) for several years.

Marilyn had a great desire to move to Chicago and moved there in 1973 with her family. While in Chicago she worked in several political positions for a time, then accepted a position with the Chicago Department of Water Management until she retired.

While living in Chicago she met Louis Broadnax from the Bronx, New York. They married in 1982 and moved to the Bronx where she lived for several years, returning to Chicago later, remaining there until she retired.

Marilyn returned to Des Moines spending her time shopping, painting and listening to music. She loved decorating her home and was very creative.

Marilyn passed away September 28, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Ricardo Dinez (Rick) and Frank Marion (Franco), her parents, Francis and Madonna Jackson, sister Nannette Bruce and brothers Darrell Jackson and Michael Jackson.

Left to cherish her memory are sisters Donna Jean Jackson, Gail Jackson-Watson and brother Keith (Sandy) Jackson and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
