Shirley Carr

September 29, 2022

Service Details

Shirley Carr peacefully went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2022, surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on December 10, 1937, in Melrose, Iowa.

Shirley, who loved to be called “Mema” by her grandkids, loved her family and was such a wonderful grandmother. She loved to talk about her granddaughters, Kami and Ashlynn, and her great granddaughter, Jocelyn. One of her favorite things was looking at pictures of them and sharing photos with everyone who came to visit. She went to every dance recital and cheered them on! They always put a smile on her face.

She was very proud of her work as a lunch lady at Christ the King School for many years. She loved to be surrounded by children, as evident with the many cousins, nieces and nephews who came to visit. Her “candy drawer” was a popular spot.

She is survived by her daughter Jean “Daisy” Kile (Matt), granddaughters Kami Watson (Dakota), Ashlynn Kile, and her great granddaughter Jocelyn Watson; siblings Chuck Sinclair, Archie Sinclair, Eileen Miller, Gary Sinclair, Charlene McCrory, Ben Sinclair, Tom Sinclair, Mike Sinclair, Melody Freeman, Wanda Olson, Rodney Sinclair and over 100 nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Paul Carr, her parents Robert Sinclair and Ruby Chance Sinclair, and her siblings, Robert, Gertrude, Thelma, Mary, Robert “Butch”, Jim, Joe, Delores, Jackie, Bernard, Morris and Art.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the Rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11th at the church. Shirley will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A luncheon will immediately follow the committal service back at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to Mission Cancer and Blood who took such good care of her for many years, or Christ the King Parish where she was a member for over 60 years.

In her words, “Well, it’s been fun.”
