Thomas Uitermarkt

Thomas Uitermarkt, 77, passed away on September 25, 2022, due to a heart attack. He was born August 24, 1945, in Eldora, Iowa to Floyd and Hazel (Berve) Uitermarkt. Thomas lost his parents at the age of 16.
Thomas was a graduate of Grinnell High School and then joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1966-1970, part of which he served in Alaska which he enjoyed. He married Nancy Uitermarkt who gave him his daughters, whom he loved dearly. They later parted and went on with their lives. He was a graduate of Drake University.
Thomas worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. On August 24, 2010, he married Margaret and they shared 12 years together. Margaret and Thomas walked together every day, hit the gym as much as possible, and enjoyed vacations to Hawaii and elsewhere. He was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Most of all, Thomas loved his family and spending time with them.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Kelly (Jason) Vick and Tracy Uitermarkt; sister, Mary Ann Mulford; sister-in-law, Marge Uitermarkt; four granddaughters, Briana (Cassie) Yates, Zoey Uitermarkt, Katelynn (Brandon) Welch, and Emagin Pedersen; one great-granddaughter, Violet Welch; bonus children, Billy (Michelle) Lanning, Robbie (Victoria) Lanning, Andy (Trisha) Hutchinson, Mindy (Ted) Rushing, and Matt (Katy) Hutchinson; and many bonus grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Uitermarkt; sister, Judith Blair; and brother-in-law, Chuck Mulford.
A memorial visitation will be from 3-6 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2022, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona.
