I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14

Miles Allen Fredericks, age 7, born in Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully passed while cuddling with his parents and brother on September 17, 2022 at UnityPoint Hospice - Taylor House.

From the day he was born, Miles brought joy to anyone lucky enough to meet him. All of his expressions filled his friends and family with happiness. Miles loved to swim, spend time outside, utilize his wheelchair swing, and have the slightest taste of any sweet food. His many adventures with his family included numerous environments, allowing him to experience all kinds of sensory stimuli, helping him enjoy the world as a deaf-blind child.

One thing is for sure, Mighty Miles was a superhero! He used his powers to inspire and show love to those around him - from his classmates to the many healthcare professionals he encountered during his life. His six cousins doted over him, wanting to spend time with him and make their adventures inclusive. He loved his big brother, Liam: his protector and best friend. Liam loved to cuddle with Miles, even watching movies and reading books with him during his final days. His mom and dad worked tirelessly to care for Miles, always putting his needs first and doing everything in their power to give Miles the best life possible. Miles will be missed tremendously, never to be forgotten by those who knew him.

Miles is survived by his parents, Nate and Rita; big brother, Liam; grandparents, Dan and Donna Birch, John and Carol Fredericks; aunts and uncles, Nick and Katie Kintzle, Andy and Jennifer Birch, and David Fredericks; cousins, Olivia and Lainey Kintzle, Daniel, Emma, and Mabel Birch, and Soha Fredericks; and great-grandmother, Jeanne Putman.

The family would like to thank UnityPoint Home Hospice and Taylor House, ChildServe staff, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Dr. Theresa Czech, Stephanie Borst, Dr. Shoab Sayeed, and Dr. Leah Brandon, all of whom have been extraordinarily impactful in making Miles’ life as wonderful as it was.

In addition, the family would like to thank Jim and Jenny Birch, Joseph Fredericks and Kelly Sinclair, St. Peter Lutheran Church Family, DCG Heritage Elementary staff and students, North High School, IDPH Bureau of Family Health and the numerous caring friends that we have met along the way. Our lives are forever touched by the outpouring of love and support that has wrapped us up over the years.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
