Virgil Blackledge

Virgil Blackledge Jr., 84, died November 10, 2009, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Mickey May. Virgil was born March 8, 1925. He graduated from North High School in 1943. Virgil served in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1945. On May 8, 1943, Virgil and Haroletta "Teri" Hunt were married. Daughter Lana Sue was born in 1945.

Virgil was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1950, he remained active until his death. He loved his faith, his wife, his family and a host of friends.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Haroletta; daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Mickey; grandchildren, Caleb (Sherri) Christensen, Amy (Mike) Kirgis, Mindi (Frank) Froah and Lisa Christensen; great grandchildren, Cassondra (Derek) Hyde, Cory (Jenna) Cox, Henry and Luke Christensen; several step-grand and great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 2 pm at the Watrous Terrace Kingdom Hall, 420 SE Watrous, Des Moines, Iowa.

A special thank you to Iowa Health Hospice and special nurse, Mary Jo for their care of Virgil.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Watrous Terrace Kingdom Hall in loving memory of Virgil. Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home is handling arrangements, flowers may be delivered there.
