Virginia Deitrick

Virginia "Ginger" Lee Deitrick, 43, passed away November 10, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Friday, November 13th at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Thursday at the funeral Home.
Ginger was born August 22, 1966, in Des Moines. She worked for Dollar General until she couldn't anymore due to her courageous battle with cancer of which she never complained. She attended Southtown Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include daughter, Danielle Deitrick (Ryan Steinkuehler); son, Dustin Deitrick; step-daughter, Courtney Deitrick; ex-husband, Aaron Deitrick; mother, Jeannette Porter; father, Lee Roy (Judy) Porter; sisters, Merrily Ellifritt (Greg Haines), Dawn Formaro; brother, Lee Roy Porter, Jr.; 6 nephews; 3 nieces; grandmother, Kathryn Porter and the love of her life granddaughter, Kadence Steinkuehler "grandmas baby girl" and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald and Maxine Smith; Leslie Porter and Vera Porter; mother-in-law Bev Deitrick and her special friend Tommy Myers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

I am very sorry for your loss. It was good to talk to you last night.
Mothers are very special humans and we do miss them so. Yet I must say they live on in their children.

This is to Gingers Family In loving memory of Ginger..
I was blessed to know Ginger for along time Though I didnt see her in her sickness I know she was a fighter and will be missed by so many BUT she will live on in our thoughts and always in our Hearts..She did not loose her battle she only won her star to heaven.She was the one Blessed to be going home,Now with No more pain or sorrow.She will be right beside you all.I Love you DooDoo

Leeroy, Judy and family,
Our hearts and prayers are with you in this time of loss. I know that Ginger and her doctors put up a fight. Hopefully the doctors have learned from their treatment of Ginger so they can help others. Again our prayers are with you!!

Words cannot express the saddness I feel at the loss of Ginger. What a trooper she has been throughout her illness. I am so grateful I had a chance to see her recently. She is loved, she is missed, and will never be forgotten.
