Mark Ardell Sykes was born on September 11, 1961 in Des Moines, IA to Willie Lee Sykes and Verona Eloise (Weezie) McElroy.
He was educated in the Des Moines Public School District and graduated from East High School in 1979. Thereafter, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1979-1985. He was a loyal employee at Siegwerk for 13 years.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with family and friends, watching crime scene documentaries, and looking fly.
Mark Ardell Sykes passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 60.
Left to cherish Mark’s memory is his loving wife, Mary; children: Markie (Brandon) Murray, Brittani Strong, Andrea Sykes, Ayeshah (Brandon) Young, Marsetta Sykes, Selena Sykes, John (Camilla) Elliott, Nellie Elliott, Chris Carmona, and Michele (Richard) Robinson; as well as 24 grandchildren, siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Verona Eloise (Weezie) Bruce; father, Willie Lee Sykes; and his fur baby, Trick Daddy.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 3100 2nd Avenue, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the service.
