Janet Ferson
September 10, 2022
Janet S. Ferson lovingly called Jannie or Aunt Jannie by her family, passed away on September 10, 2022. She was 74 years old.
Janet was born on December 4, 1947, in Council Bluffs Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Louise Jenkins and grew up in the community of Griswold, Iowa. Janet graduated from Griswold Community High School in 1966 and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Political Science.
Shortly after graduating from UNI, she took a position at American Abstract and Title Company in Des Moines where she worked as an abstractor until shortly before her death. It was there working in the Polk County Courthouse that she met Captain N. Robert Ferson. On August 11, 1972, Janet and Bob were married in Griswold.
Janet had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a story. Talking was her specialty. As a family, we used to say that if she had to sit on her hands, she wouldn’t be able to talk. Janet loved spending time with her family and enjoyed getting visits when we were in the Des Moines area. Janet will also be remembered for her love of reading, her fondness for political conversation, and for growing the best garden goodies.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William Jenkins and Louise Jenkins, and her husband N. Robert Ferson.
Janet leaves behind her brother W. Dale Jenkins (Helen), her niece Debra Jenkins (Dale) Stephenson, nephew Ronald Jenkins (Karen), great nieces Lyndsey (Stephenson) Buhrman (Tim), Danielle (Stephenson)Jones (Matt), Shelby Jenkins, Chelsea (Jenkins)Dvorak (Alex) and Great nephew William Jenkins (Samantha). Great- Great nieces Dyllan Buhrman, Bryce Buhrman, Brystol Dvorak, Lux Jenkins, and Great-great nephews, Brody Christiansen, Brayden Jones, Cash Suhr, and Chance Dvorak, along with many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2022, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Whipple Cemetery in Griswold, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family or an animal shelter of your choice in loving memory of Janet.

So shocked to hear of Jans passing. I was her first college roommate at UNI ( it was SCI when we started). Even though we only roomed together for one year we stayed friends throughout our lives. We shared December birthdays- mine on the 2nd and hers on the 4th. Always exchanged cards (hers were lovingly created by hand) and I loved getting her Christmas long letters. Hearing about what had happened throughout the year in her life and her pets lives was a pleasure I looked forward to each year. She always brought a smile to my face with her wonderful humor. I will miss her dearly and am sending all of her family my deepest sympathy.

I was shocked to find out today that Janet had died. I called a friend of hers after Janet's phone number I called said it was out of service. I met Janet on a trip to China several years ago. She was so funny and cheerful as all have said. I also miss her garden and flower pictures and especially her Christmas cards with her yearly and funny update of her life. She was very intelligent and shared her knowledge with me when it came to deeds and abstracts, etc. I am so sorry she had to leave so soon. I dearly miss her and the times we visited. I pray for the rest of her family.

This is late, but I just heard about Janet. I can see her now walking like a very tall statue in the courthouse with her fur and all those jewels. stopped daily to get the latest news and she was always a good one to go to for knowledge on something I may be working on. My dad called her TALL KNEES and she worked with him from his start at Peoples abstract until he retired 44 years later as well. Not many like ole Janet! Prayers to the rest of the family.

The world is a less cheerful place without you, Janet! You were such a ray of sunshine. And so intelligent - and oh my gosh, so well-read. And what a gardener! Your many talents touched many hearts. Ive known you since you and your parents rented my grandparents home east of Griswold back in 1955.
I will miss your wit, sharp observations and beautiful photos from your garden. Godspeed, old friend.

I am so sorry that you left us so soon. I'll never forget the bunches of rhubarb you supplied Dave and I. I'll always remember our days working together. I was shocked to hear of her passing. RIP my dear friend. You know Dave, give him a hug for me. You will be terribly missed.
