September 09, 2022
Sandra Lynn Loughry-Somers, age 55, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice with her family by her side on Friday, September 9, 2022, after her third valiant battle with cancer.
Sandra was born July 1, 1967 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the daughter of Donna Kay (Lynch) and James Lee Loughry. To know Sandy was to love her. To spend time with her was to be accompanied by her radiant smile and infectious laugh. Sandy was very outgoing and donated much of her time to supporting various fund raisers. She was a member of the W&B Coffee Club. Sandy was athletic and was a member of a team that won two Little League State Championships. She was a devout Catholic. She was baptized at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Des Moines, IA and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maple Grove, MN.
Sandra is survived by her father, Lee Loughry; brother, Steve Loughry; children, Chandler and Kennedy (Justin); and two grandchildren, Liam and Elliot, who knew her as “Mimi”. She also leaves behind an army of close personal friends and family members who will miss her cheerful voice and radiant smile.
Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Kay Loughry, who she missed every day. She will now be laid to rest next to “Mom” and has joined her in Heaven.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, also at Hamilton’s. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Michael Bradford’s home, 4110 E 28th Street, Des Moines, time to be decided.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Sandy. A very special thank you to all of Sandy’s close friends for their support and love, especially Mary Jo and Tim for taking her into their home and caring for her during her final battle, and to Sherri for her continuous support.

My condolences to the family and to all her friends. I didn't really get to know Sandy. When I would see her out and about we always talked. She had a smile that would light up the room. Her personality was as bright as her smile. She will be missed by so many. Who knew her was very lucky to have her as a friend. My prayers go out to you all.

I didn't know Sandra very well. We became FB friends after Sandra reached out to me when my brother, Tom Turner died. Tom had Esophageal Cancer and died 2/28/22. Sandra sent me the sweetest message through FB and sent her condolences. Not once did she let on that she was also sick with cancer. Sandra was so gracious in her sympathy to my family's heartache. True selflessness. I am blessed that Sandra crossed my path. May God hold her family and comfort them during this heartbreaking time.
