Carol Sillanpaa

Carol Sillanpaa, 88, passed away on September 4, 2022, at Taylor House in Des Moines. She was born on April 17, 1934, to Edward and Gladys Brisson.

Carol was born in Michigan and then moved to Iowa to raise her family. She loved going to Prairie Meadows, cooking for her family, Sunday dinners, and country music, especially Merle Haggard. Carol was a caretaker to everyone – the door was always open and she would help anyone. No one ever went home hungry and if you did it was your fault.

Carol is survived by her children, Michael Sillanpaa, Terry Sillanpaa, and Lori Gilbert; grandchildren, Mike Jr., Jamey (Shelli), Brandi, Angie, Shawnae, Joe, Matt (Julie), Chucky, Josh, and Cory; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Kay (Ray Ball); daughter-in-law, Ranae; many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children; Dale and Ronnie; granddaughter, Jessi Gilbert; and all of her siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
