Robert (Bob) Carl Smith

Robert (Bob) Carl Smith, aged 95, from Bondurant, Iowa passed away on September 5, 2022 peacefully at home.

Bob was born February 25, 1927 in Spring Hill, Iowa. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1944 prior to joining the Navy that same year. Bob served in active duty with the Navy for just over 20 years. Upon his retirement in 1965 from full-time service, Bob served in the Navy Reserves until 1975. After his retirement, Bob worked for the Post Office, Ross Electric and Waldinger Local 45 from which he retired in 1986. Never one to sit idle, Bob bartended at The Big Steer where he met his wife Judy.

Bob had a varied and wide range of hobbies and interests. Some included being a licensed pilot and flying small planes; building and racing race cars; building and flying radio controlled airplanes; ham radios; and up until a few years ago model trains. Bob enjoyed motorcycle vacations with his wife Judy, as well as RV trips and travelling. Visits with family were always welcome.

Bob was a regular attender of First Church of Christ in Ankeny, Iowa.

Bob is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judith (Judy) Haines Smith; two sons, Richard and Ted (Cathy); and daughter, Deborah Ault (Gary); two bonus daughters, Dawn Lee (David) and Roni Schuling (Eric). As well as, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many more family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene Smith; brother, Donnie; sisters, Junadeane and Ruth; half-brother, Harold; half-sister, Alma; and sons Patrick and Jeff.

Visitation will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, September 15, 2022, with funeral service following at 11 a.m., at First Church of Christ, 310 NW Ash Dr., Ankeny.

A private family interment service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either Hospice of the Midwest or First Church of Christ in memory of Bob.
